Flutes (Meigan and Jade had instrument)

What we did
  • Review fingerings for Bb, C and D
  • Practice coordinating C to D fingerings and playing
  • Introduced ties and slurs on page 39: 4A and 4B
    • execution of tie and slur
    • sustaining sound for 8 counts
  • Played through line 7

What to do
  • Practice switching between D and C fingerings
    • Fingers only then playing whole note/whole rest rhythms
    • Meet proficiency of performance targets on line 7
  • Sustain Bb, C and D for 8 counts each (if not more)

Looking Ahead
  • Learning the fingering for D and playing the note with acceptable tone quality (Line 1 on page 6)
  • Playing combinations of whole note/rest patterns using Bb, C, and D (lines 3, 5-7)

Mason - Clarinets/Alto Saxophone (Soren without instrument); Antonio could not play*

*I am very concerned about this. A ligature was purchased but he was sold an Alto Sax ligature. This was returned but not exchanged for a clarinet ligature.

What we did
All students
  • Played line 7 to achieve proficiency or mastery level
  • Worked establish a legato tonguing style with half note rhythms and quarter note rhythms
    • We used line 8, 4A & 4B, Line 11
  • Looked and played through some of lines 12, 13, 14 and 16

What to do
  • Meet performance targets on lines 12, 14 and 16

Looking Ahead
  • Introducing concert Eb and F into pitch range

What we did
  • Tested line 12 for proficiency in performance targets
  • Discussed practice method of playing 2 measures at a time to learn a line of music then sequencing them
  • Introduced counting and playing whole note rhythms

What to do
  • Meet proficiency for performance targets on lines 12 & 14
  • Practice line 16 (to prepare for line 17)

  • Reading and playing music that contain and Eb and F
  • Meeting proficiency on lines 17, 22 and 23
